Chilton was born in Beaufort, South Carolina on December 31, 1974. She graduated from the University of Georgia (B.A. 1997) and the University of South Carolina Law School (J.D. 2000), where she was president of the Palmetto Law Society (1998 – 1999).

She was admitted to the South Carolina Bar and the United States District Court, District of South Carolina in 2000. She is a member of the Charleston County, South Carolina, and American Bar Associations and the South Carolina Women Lawyer’s Association. Her areas of practice include medical malpractice defense, health care, insurance law, employment law, commercial litigation, and products liability.
