Matthew was born in Charleston, South Carolina on June 20, 1981. He graduated from Belton-Honea Path High School (1999), the College of Charleston (B.A., 2003) and the University of South Carolina School of Law (J.D., 2007). During law school he served on the Real Property, Probate & Trust Journal, was a member of the Wig & Robe Order and graduated cum laude.

He was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 2007. He is a member of the Charleston County, South Carolina and American Bar Associations. His areas of practice include product liability, negligence, medical malpractice defense, employment law, insurance law and general civil and commercial litigation.
