Rick was born in Greenville, South Carolina on April 6, 1976. He graduated from Emory University in 1998 with a B.A. in History. He received his juris doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2003, where he served as Managing Editor for the Southeastern Environmental Law Journal, and Treasurer for the Moot Court Bar. From 2003-2004, Rick served as law clerk for the Honorable Wyatt T. Saunders, Jr. of the Eighth Judicial Circuit of South Carolina.

He was admitted to practice in South Carolina in 2003, and is a member of the South Carolina and American Bar Associations. His areas of practice include professional malpractice defense, health care, insurance law, employment law, commercial litigation, personal injury, and products liability.
